Two Ways to Wear Boyfriend Jeans

Hi fashion babes,

Today I wanted to share two different looks I put together that sport boyfriend jeans. Sometimes I don’t feel like putting on tight yoga pants or tighter jeans, so I reach for my Gap boyfriend jeans (I admit I purchased them in clearance too).

The first look is a bit preppy meets relaxed, with my Banana Republic pinstripe button up. To dress the look down, I use the boyfriend jeans. Coupled with my oversized hippie ZeroUV sunglasses and a messy bun, I have a mix of preppy and casual.

I find that, unless I’m going to a interview or a highly dressed event, I don’t need to go full preppy with an outfit. I definitely don’t when I work! Boyfriend jeans are not meant to look perfectly sophisticated, but more like you’re trying less and you’re actually more comfortable. Effortless looks sometimes are the best!

The Banana Republic button up is actually a bit long if it’s not tucked into a skirt or tied, so I tied it in a knot in front to make it a little more fun.

For the shoes, I went with  my favorite black booties from Cole Haan. They gave me a little lift in my posture, instantly making the boyfriend jeans less slouchy.

Now onto the second look (my personal favorite): boho meets boyfriend jeans.

The bralette in the photos is from a Free People pant set I’ve actually already posted. Sometimes I wear the bralette by itself because it’s a great color and it looks awesome with cardigans and flannels.

FP Bralette 1.jpg

For the shoes on this look, I chose brown loafers. I got mine from Chinese Laundry a couple years back at Nordstrom Rack. If you don’t already shop for shoes at Nordstrom Rack, consider this incentive. The loafers give the look a bit more of a studious feel with a hipster edge. Very Seattle, I know.

Athleta C Laugh

The cardigan is from Athleta. It’s super soft and I like to drape it off my shoulders to make the look a little girly. And the cream goes great with the light wash jeans and the browns from the shoes and the bralette. I re-wore this exact outfit a couple days after this shoot, I was in love! And I was comfortable, best of both worlds.

Of course, I was in my natural habitat hanging around a coffee shop in my second look. Spoiler; I can’t wait to share my favorite Seattle Coffee shops!

I hope you all enjoyed these two ways to wear boyfriend jeans.

Favorite Finds: Pinstripe Pants featuring Free People

Hi everyone,

I needed to share these pinstripe pants. They are stretchy, funky, and the best part: they were $14.99 at Marshall’s.

In terms of the brand of the pants, the brand does not currently have social media accounts, however, I guarantee you could find something similar in the pants sections of Marshall’s or TJ Maxx, and a higher price point at Free People.

PS8.jpg

The outfit doesn’t come with the coffee, but it was a necessity when Reed Alyson and I came across the cutest coffee shop in the Alphabet District in Portland. Her IG accounts are @reedalyson and @reedalysonphotography. If you want to check out her website, it is reedalyson.com.

I’ve always been a been skeptic of printed pants, because solid black pants have been a staple of mine for easy outfit pairing. But these ones go so well with a black top and even my wide brim hat (the outfit was a hit in Portland). I’m telling you, you will get people saying something if you throw on a pair of pinstripe pants. It’s bold.

PS9.jpg

Given how bold the pants are, I recommend pairing them with neutrals, especially black.

I gave the outfit more movement and went with a top with flowy sleeves, and I chose to wear my Sperry’s to keep the outfit more quirky than editorial. I wore my hair natural (it doesn’t take to tools anyway) and no jewelry was needed!

This outfit was great in the “Keep Portland Weird” movement, but you better believe I’ll be sporting it for meetings and future fashion events in Seattle.

Affordable and a statement, what else do you need? I hope you loved this point of view of pinstripe pants. Have an awesome rest of your week, loves.

Favorite Finds: Free People Pant set

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in Sarasota, Florida and I wanted to post a favorite finds! To be frank, I feel like I’m either in athleisure wear or Free People clothes. Both are staples in my wardrobe. I found a pant set from Free People, the Beach Lakeview Pant Set. The fit is unique, not to mention the color being mustard yellow.

Processed with VSCO with g2 preset

I really want to get more sets for events, because they’re easy just like dresses and they often look good with either trainers or heels. Versatility is one of the best things about a fashion piece.

These aren’t a “sexy” set. It shows some skin with the cropped top, however, the top is straight across and is essentially a semi-fitted bralette. The pants are a more relaxed fit in the pant leg and fitted in the waist and hem. I think it’s so quirky, and I think any neutral shoes would go great with the set. I paired them with my Cole Haan booties.

Processed with VSCO with g2 preset

With outfits like these I think it’s better not to overdo it with jewelry or extra accessories. A simple addition like wooden mala beads was all I went for. The set itself is a statement. The color is also a bit out of the norm, so matching jewelry and accessories would be tricky.

The funny thing about this outfit is it makes you look slim while remaining quirky. I would definitely wear this to an event because it’s so different. When the set was on the hanger I immediately noticed it because of the color and buttons on the top piece.

Processed with VSCO with g2 preset

Another awesome perk: You don’t need double support in the bust. It does fit like a bralette so you can wear it bare. People may notice at times, but do what you feel comfortable with.

If the pant set was a different color, I would probably be tempted to pair it with a wide-brimmed hat. But I like to have a mix in an outfit, so I took the quirkiness of the piece and matched it with more sophisticated shoes to tie it together.

I had fun shooting in this outfit and I’m definitely going to wear it out once it warms up outside!

As for where to buy the set, is has been sold out on the Free People website. It hasn’t been in the catalog for a while because it was on discount. I found it at Marshall’s! However, if you’re looking for a pant set or some inspiration, put it in the search bar on the FP website and there a ton of styles.

I hope you all enjoyed this latest favorite find. I hope it gives you quirky inspiration xx

The Perfect LBD & Jean Jacket Combo

Hi everyone,

Some LBD’s (little black dresses) are for evenings out, or meant to be stand-alone pieces. While these are great, I love the casual LBD. I pair my favorite one, by designer Alexander Wang, with my Ralph Lauren jean jacket. The jacket has a vintage feel with an American flag on the back.

This look is easy to pair with trainers (I go with Sperry’s) or more dressed up with booties or heels. There’s so much versatility here. Just like I love to pair summer dresses with sneakers for an easy and comfortable look, these two pieces in combination make an effortless but put together look.

LBD 2.jpg

I also wanted to share my new favorite lipstick line Bite Beauty. It is sold through Sephora, and the ingredients are all natural and organic. Not to mention the colors are absolutely amazing. I am wearing the color “Praline,” which is a spicy peach shade. It’s my go-to lipstick for the day time.

I confess, I own two other shades as well, but I am telling you, the price is worth it for the boost of antioxidants given to your lips and the undeniable color quality. You’ll thank me later.

A little bit about my makeup routine: I go very low coverage. To be frank, I don’t feel like I’m wearing anything, which is what I’m comfortable with. As long as my eyebrows are filled and my lips have color, the rest is really subtle. We all have our ideal makeup canvas!

LBD 3.jpg

I’m also going to say that I love a little bit of sex appeal in outfits like these, without overdoing it. The jean jacket adds a casual touch to this very form-fitting tank dress. The dress by itself looks a bit formal, so I’ve made a habit of wearing it with this jacket, flannels, or my Free People leather jacket to make it either edgy or more toned down.

I also want to mention my need to balance tighter fitting clothes with looser ones. If I go tight on the bottom, I’ll usually have a top that’s more relaxed so my look is a bit more easy-going. The tightness of the tank dress with the relaxed fit of the jacket is a great balance.

Neutrals are also something to consider when putting together these flirty looks. Black pieces make for very workable neutrals!

♥ Outfit Details  ♥

I want to make it known that I found this tank dress on discount in TJ Maxx over a year ago, and it is unfortunately sold out. I still left the link for inspiration! The RL jean jacket is no longer sold in stores, however, places like Ebay still have them available!

Alexander Wang Modal Spandex Cami Tank Dress (sold out)

Ralph Lauren Flag 80’s Denim Jacket Vintage (Very few still online!)

I hope you found my LBD tips helpful and fun, and I would love to know your favorite ways of styling yours! xx

Exercise as a Mindset and Lifestyle

Hi everyone,

This is a blog feature I contributed to Be Wise Magazine. It’s a great magazine that dedicated its content to empowering girls and women to be themselves and be inspired. You definitely should check them out!

♥   ♥   ♥   ♥   ♥

Working out is not just obtaining a gym membership. Exercise isn’t getting in your daily steps, or the stepping-stone to a bikini body. It’s much more than the activity or the justifiable results. It’s a lifestyle.

Exercise is commonly associated with getting a better body. It should instead be associated with a positive mindset to practice long-term health, as well as the prevention of outcomes such as disease and low self-esteem. In reality, results from fitness cannot be seen overnight, furthering the need to focus more on how you feel as opposed to just how you look.

A great way to keep fitness as a lifestyle: enjoy the actual workouts. Whether you are a yoga and Pilates fanatic, runner, or weight lifter (or a combination), aim to choose exercises you look forward to. Working out shouldn’t feel mentally draining, and if you feel unmotivated to get out and sweat, try switching up your routine! Regardless, exercise brings a release of endorphins, which improve your state of happiness. Working out lowers stress, promotes better sleep, and boosts self-esteem. These benefits are far beyond just physical.

Fitness Quote .jpg
Quote format credit to Be Wise Magazine

As a former NCAA collegiate tennis player, exercise has always been a part of my lifestyle. When I’m working out, exterior influences don’t exist. I have that time to myself, for my personal well-being. Exercise to me is a contribution to the other healthy lifestyle habits I regularly practice, such as nutrition and positive mental health habits. I practice Pilates and yoga, I lift weights multiple days a week, and I also incorporate cardio to stay lean and boost my cardiovascular health. It’s all a balance, not a race to see physical changes.

Challenge yourself. Use exercise to motivate you, not intimidate you due to some unrealistic universal standard. Focus on obtaining a positive mindset through exercise and movement, and hold yourself accountable to maintain that lifestyle for yourself and no one else.

Favorite Finds: Vegan Leather “Squad Goals” Free People Jacket

Fashion babes,

I have discovered how crucial it is for black wardrobe lovers to have the perfect leather jacket. I love wearing black, but I was missing the jacket to complete so many looks that needed a little boost. Leather jackets are the best edge to even the simplest outfit.

I went with vegan leather because I love how it’s environmentally friendly, and just like relationships, I don’t need something strictly for the label. If vegan leather does the same job as real leather for a third of the price and doesn’t hurt the environment, I’m all in. I also sincerely hope that relationship joke made you laugh a little.

Let’s discuss how this jacket earned the name “squad goals.” The cut of it is my favorite part. Instead of fitting wider at the bottom, it tapers in to better mold to your shape. I find this detail so much more flattering.

Leather J 1.jpg

The jacket comes with a detachable belt, however, I feel that the belt gives a little more dimension to the piece. There are two lines of zippers depending on the tightness of the fit you want, and the collar has built in buttons if you want it to lay flat.

The look of the jacket is very tailored. This gives you more variety to wear it with dresses or skirts without the added bulk. I actually purchased a rose colored maxi length dress the day I got this jacket, and the two looked great together. I love outfits that are both girly and edgy, to give a nice balance.

Leather J 5.jpg

As for the color, it was a given that I was going to go with black. I wanted it to be a staple piece in my wardrobe, so black is the best option for that. For a second jacket I’m definitely considering getting a color… but black is my love! ♥  ♥  ♥

If you’re looking for a leather jacket, I think the Squad Goals one is a great choice. It retails for $128. The link: https://www.freepeople.com/shop/squad-goals-vegan-leather-jacket/

As for pairing outfits, I’ll go with the casual sneakers look, booties, or over the knee boots. I love my Adidas Originals Superstars for the casual look, because the black details tie in with the jacket. Booties look great with black leggings or black pants for city look. Since leather jackets are edgy, pairing them with dresses and sneakers are super cute for spring and summer! That will be my go-to once it gets warmer. ♥

Leather J 4.jpg

I will always go with vegan leather to support the environment, and I don’t support the use of dead animal skin. This small change is so easy to make! Stella McCartney, for instance, only uses vegan leather in her designs, further supporting this movement. Even Natalie Portman, who has become a beloved fashion icon, has her own vegan leather shoe line.

I hope this review of the Squad Goals jacket found you all well! Thanks for reading. xx

My Go-to’s to Maintaining Nutritional Health on Vacation

Hey everyone,

So I just got back from a week of beautiful sunshine in Palm Springs, California. Even a week away from a dedicated nutrition or fitness plan can throw you off pretty significantly in terms of how you feel. However, it is vacation after all, so finding a balance is great to enjoy all the relaxing benefits.

I went to a tennis tournament, five days of elite tennis watching to be exact. I was there watching tennis day and night.

♥ My favorite grocery store to meal prep on the road: Trader Joe’s. We packed salads (I went for the mediterranean) or veggie hummus wraps. These gave me the carbs, omega-3’s, and leafy greens for all the vitamins and minerals. Also an awesome price point!

Back to the balance point, sometimes you can’t be so nutrition conscious, sometimes you have a “cheat meal.” Don’t be hard on yourself, it’s okay to live a little. One of the tournament days we got pizza, and it was authentic italian margarita. 🙂

♥ On the plane: don’t underestimate snack boxes. I flew back on Alaskan Air, and I got the mediterranean snack box. It was complete with hummus, whole grain chips, almonds, dried apricots, and a small piece of dark chocolate (from Seattle’s Chocolates to be exact). In short, it was awesome for plane food. I love how airlines are catering more to healthier options, and it was even gluten-free for those that are following that stricter diet. I would highly recommend! I wasn’t planning on getting food on the plane, but I got hungry and I don’t like to put my body in starvation mode. Starvation mode slows down your metabolism, hence the reason why nutritionists stress the importance of eating frequently!

VN plane .jpg

♥ A major realization I made about drinking fruit juice: My body really responded well to not having it. I tend to have fruit juice a lot if it’s in my fridge. The whole week in Palm Springs was just water or sugar-free lemonade and iced tea. Drinking calories and sugary drinks really does a number on fitness and especially your stomach. And given my workout routine was much less intense on vacation, it definitely helped to cut out the sugary drinks.

♥ I’m not a fan of Starbucks coffee unless as a last resort (yes I know I’m from Seattle), but I used the Starbucks refreshes lemonade packets to put in my water at the tournament to mix it up from tap water. If you need a little flavor, these are great and super easy to pack! You can get them at your local grocery store. Not to mention its cost effective to carry powders instead of buying drinks.

♥ Protein powders are another thing to consider packing for your trip. You can transfer the powder into a smaller plastic container or put it in a ziplock bag, to avoid lugging the original container. I brought my Vega protein and greens powder in a small container, and I used it twice on the trip. I mixed it with coconut milk I got from the store. It definitely wasn’t as good as a full-on smoothie, but it was another way to add some protein into my vacation diet!

♥ If you’re staying in a hotel or anywhere with a fridge: It may be wise to keep some things stocked just in case you’re stuck with only fast food open around you. You don’t have great options around 10 pm, so keeping easy meals and snacks in the fridge at your hotel is really helpful. We kept carrots and hummus, apples and peanut butter, as well as the leftover Thai food from the thai food we went to TWICE because it was bomb.

♥Bowl it out: I love to make bowls, whether spanish style, full of veggies, or fruit bowls with a smoothie base. On the trip we found a place called Fresh Juice Bar, which sports smoothie bowls with pitaya and acaí bases. This is was a great breakfast option, they were filling, and I always like to eat my natural sugars from fruits in the beginning of the day.

VN bowl.jpg

♥ When eating out: You are on vacation, but take into account the fact that you can’t control the ingredients going into your meal like you can at home. Proportions are often larger at restaurants depending on where you go. Always remember your food groups and macros! When I went to brunch, I ordered an omelette full of veggies, to get the protein and greens. I chose a side of fruit instead of hash browns, and I got a pomegranate juice as a sort of detox as opposed to ordering soda or sugary fruit juice.

VN smoothie .jpg

♥ Stay hydrated! When I was hanging out by the pool, I had a bottle of water. When I had coffee, I had a glass of water to balance it out. Especially in warm weather, staying hydrated is crucial! And water flushes out toxins. However, I frequently drink kombucha for the natural healthy bacteria and boost of probiotics, so it’s cool to reach for those too!

VN Kom.jpg

I hope you found these nutritional tips helpful for your next trip! xx
